Gerding Edlen is moving forward with its 23-story tower in Oakland. It has selected Suffolk as the building contractor for its 1700 Webster St. residential tower project. The 270K SF building, designed by Perkins+Will, is among several towers proposed along Webster Street.

Oakland building collapse: 13 workers hurt during mishap

At least 13 workers were hurt Friday when part of the second floor of a building in Oakland collapsed, temporarily trapping the employees in wet concrete, authorities said.
No major injuries were reported, said Oakland Fire Battalion Chief Ian McWhorter although the workers suffered minor cuts, scrapes and bruises, he said.
